Marble is a limestone based
material.
Marble properties:
• Reasonably porous and requires a good penetrative
sealer.
• Moderately scratch resistant.
• Not acid resistant (surface polish will be damaged
from acids found in foods such as coffee, red wine, soft
drinks, fruit juice and fruit).
Marble is not recommended for
kitchen bench tops due to its susceptibility to scratching
and acid attack.
Penetrative sealers are designed to reduce capillary action
and thus slow down the penetration, liquids should be wiped
up and not left on benchtops.
